Certificate Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Women's and Gender Studies extends graduate students' work in other disciplines by exploring feminist theoretical perspectives and analyzing the structural and interpersonal dimensions of race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexuality. Students complete nine hours of coursework. The thesis or dissertation includes a significant treatment of gender, sexuality or a related WGS topic.

Admission Requirements

Graduate standing in primary discipline and director approval.

Course Requirements

The WGS Graduate Certificate requires 9 hours of coursework, including WGS 5914 Feminist Theory and WGS 5924 Feminist Research Methodologies.  Other courses must be either courses with a WGS prefix or cross-listed or approved by the WGS Director as counting for WGS. The thesis or dissertation includes a significant treatment of gender, sexuality or a related WGS topic. The committee should include one WGS faculty member or affiliate faculty member from other departments to serve as a consultant for the gender related content.
